The value of animals in promoting healing and growth is becoming increasingly recognized among professional health care providers. If you are associated with a health care, you should know that:
- Animal-assisted activities and therapy have many positive benefits for the physical and psychological health of individuals, such as alleviated depression, lower blood pressure, increased interest in others, motivation for physical therapy, decreased stress levels, and better self-esteem.
- All DOC team volunteers are covered by Delta Society's $1 million primary liability insurance policy while working.
- A veterinarian has examined each dog and declared the animal healthy and of sound temperament, and the owner is required to keep the dog current on vaccinations and free of parasites.
- A facility is never charged for DOC team visits.
- If your facility does now have existing policies and procedures about therapy dog visits, Delta Society has a facility agreement that can be used. DOC can help coordinate the signing of this agreement.
If you are interested in having a DOC team visit your facility, please contact: Gina Smith: DOCfacilities@charter.net
